Fun Monday – Something telling!

This week’s Fun Monday is hosted by Mariposa at Mariposa Tales and she has an interesting one this week.

(1) Share something which you wish your readers would know about you. It could be something you feel you might need to clarify/ share, etc.

(2) Ask three questions to your readers, and I mean all readers, whether participants of Fun Monday or not. The questions should be generic so that all your readers can answer them and that it will help you get to know your readers more.

1. I’ve been ill for some time now, after a few different blood tests (my least favourite thing in the world), it turns out that I have glandular fever (for the third time in my life). There is also indications that something else is going wrong with me so I am having further tests this week. I have my suspicions about what it might be but we’ll see what the tests say.

Why don’t I like blood tests? Here’s something a lot of my newer readers (aka FM participants) wouldn’t know, my veins are really stupid, they’re little spindly things, and each time someone thinks they’ve got a vein and they put the needle in my inner elbow, the vein jumps out from under the needle. At times I’ve had people digging around inside my arm for the vein (OUCH). In more recent times too, it is getting harder for them, it’s hard to draw the blood out but with persistence and a bit of pain they eventually get enough. I generally end up like a pin cushion and always come back with at least two bandaged spots, sometimes more. I will need more blood tests soon too :-(   Below is a recent photo, they tried my inner elbows (both) and then tried two places on my hand, the top one was the winner!

Pin Cushion!

Pin Cushion!

2. Three questions to ask my readers…that’s a tough one! (remember all my readers can participate in this one).

  • Is there anything you’d like me to change on my blog?
  • What are your plans for the day?
  • What is your nickname that you use online and why did you choose it?

Now head over to Mariposa’s blog and see what other FM participants are sharing!

  1. Larelle Read says:

    1) No, there isn’t anything I’d change about your site. Who am I to give advise on that anyway? lol
    2) My plans for the day? Doing some Internet surfing, maybe posting a blog post (might even be “fun Monday” themed), waiting for a aprcel to show up, do some reading, watch some telly. All the usual things I do any other day.
    3) Most of the time I don’t bother with a nickname as I get pretty lucky when signing up to things that no one else has used “Larelle” before me. If I *DO* choose a nickname it’s Lozzy. Why I chose it? It was sort of chosen for me. My sister calls me “Loz” and my mother-in-law’s nickname is Mozzy, so I sort of blended them to use Lozzy.

I haven’t yet decided whether I can think of anything new or original for this post so might not be able to join in this week.

I didn’t realise you could get Glandular fever more than once. I remember having it when Beccy was a toddler and it was so hard trying to care for her.
As to your questions I’ve always thought you do a great job on your blogs.
My plans for today include the weekly grocery shop and clearing a pile of ironing-all boring stuff.
Nickname-well on plurk I’m supergran because that’s what I hope to be to my 3 lovely grandchildren.

    • wendishness says:

LOL did your parcel arrive? I liked your FM styled post btw :D

  2. cynicalgirl says:

1: Can’t think of anything to change on your blog.
    2: My plans? It’s Monday, let’s see… oh, yeah… work. :-( woohoo.
3: I stole my nickname from a song by Marshall Crenshaw named “Cynical Girl.” It’s usually cynicalgirl with a small c because the first forum I belonged to wanted one word names starting with small letters. If I’m lucky, I can just be cynicalgirl, otherwise I add my birth year in some way.

Isn’t it funny how some people use capitals and others don’t, you’ve seen how I have in the past with different aliases, but I like wendishness to be a lower case W, not sure why, it seems to look better to me.

  3. Janis says:

Am I from another planet? I have never heard of gladular fever, maybe we called it something else here in the states. I feel your pain about blood tests…I am the same way..I try to drink a lot of water to plumb up my veins, but its still a problem, they have to use a small(pediactric needle)and last time they had to stick me four times before they found a vein…hate..hate it!
    1. no change for your blog…I think its just fine
    2. plans for today…blog,laundry,gym,babysit
    3. no nickname..its my real one

    • wendishness says:

LOL glandular fever, also known as mononucleosis (sp?) or kissing disease is it’s more popular term.

It doesn’t actually have symptoms, it’s an immune disorder that invites all kinds of other health problems in so you just treat the symptoms of those while it’s in your system. But it does leave you feeling really tired and lethargic.

Sorry to hear you have vein issues too :(

  4. Mariposa says:

First off, I hope you’re fine and that all tests results will be good and there’s nothing to worry. And as I progress in years, I started to hate needles too!

    Here goes my answers –

    1. Your blog is fine with me, layout is simple and posts are easy to read.
    2. I just got back a very exhausting trip so I will just be sleeping today, and later I will bake some cookies to bring to friends in Manila bec I’ll be traveling again. /Sigh
    3. Mariposa – and it means butterfly, I LOVE butterflies!

Thanks for playing…wish you a great week!

  5. So sorry about your health issues! And I’m a pretty good shot with even rolly-polly veins — it’s a pity I can’t be your nurse!

    As far as the questions:

    1) Nothing; your blog is lovely!

    2) Um, working at the hospital, blogging, writing, finishing sewing the living room curtains, chasing my child, … the usual.

    3) “Mama Dramatist” — ’cause the “mama” part of life is SOOOO dramatic!!

    • wendishness says:

It’s a great name that you’ve got. I would LOVE for you to be my nurse if you’re one of the ace’s who can work with weird veins, I used to go to a woman who was also excellent and never had trouble either, where did she go? :(

  6. Sayre says:

My veins are the same way… tough and rolly! I found that drinking A LOT of water helps. I did have one time though that they had to stick me 8 times, and it still didn’t work. Had to go home and drink even MORE water to try again the next day.

•Is there anything you’d like me to change on my blog? Nope – it’s lovely the way it is.

•What are your plans for the day? I will leave work early today to pick up my son and we will go home, make dinner and I will construct a new bag for his music stand.

•What is your nickname that you use online and why did you choose it? My nick name is Sayre, which is also my pen name. It was going to be my name originally (named for my dad’s old girlfriend who helped him through some bad stuff), but they opted for a more common version. I liked the Celtic one though, so that’s what I use.

  7. Faye says:

Your challenges with veins reminds me of a great example of a husband’s love, Wendy. My friend was going through a life threatening illness and faced so many needles. Her husband always took her to the doctor and he made it his business to scope out the very best “sticker” to take blood samples from my friend. I always thought that was so loving of him–it’s the little things. I hope you get good news this week.

    Your questions/my answers:

    1. I like your blog’s clean design. Blogging is so personal I think you have to design your site and post in a way that satisfies you personally.

    2. Plans for the day–read paper and drink coffee, read, sort out some issues with my sister, clean, cook dinner for three nights, watch Dancing with the Stars.

    3. I use the nickname for my formal name on blog. For postcarding my username is “Searcher” which pretty much says who I am. BTW, Sunday night I saw a Globe Trekker series on Australia. The tour guide started in Queensland, then on the Fraser Island and points north. I kept thinking, I know people from there. In fact there’s a “G’day from Australia” postcard right in front of me that I must register!

    • wendishness says:

Faye that’s so lovely of what your friend’s husband did for her. LOL Queensland is a great state (where I live of course), though it’s warming up too much :(

  8. grace says:

Is there anything you’d like me to change on my blog?
I think it is fine, maybe when the season changes, you can change something but it is great as it is
What are your plans for the day?
I am writing this at night, planning on staying up to study
What is your nickname that you use online and why did you choose it? If I told you my nickname, someone would connect it to me :-)

    • wendishness says:

I understand Grace! Seasonal changes on the blog, there’s a thought I hadn’t considered though it might confuse a lot of my online blog friends from the northern hemisphere (we’re opposites)

  9. Holly says:

Ugh – I have similar issues whenever anyone tries to get blood from me. They always swear they never have any trouble, blah, blah, blah – then with me, they have trouble and spend the next 1/2 hour claiming they’ve never had that sort of trouble with anyone. Yeah, right. I figure they use the same lines on everyone to cover up their inability to actually catch a vein.

    As for your questions –
    1. Your blog, “I” wouldn’t change anything!
    2. Well, I’m playing blog commenting catch up this evening, hence the lateness with this!
    3. I used to use MiHoMiPa – first two letters of all our names, which I got from my parents – their boat was called SCKIWE HO – first two letters of my brothers and sister, then me seperate, since there was a bit of time lag between the three of them and me! :-) Oh, and it was basically pronounced Ski-we-ho, although I had an uncle that used to scream across the lake “Za-wi-ke-ho!” at the top of his lungs!

    • wendishness says:

LOL I’ve wondered the same with them taking blood, it’s a hassle for sure, got another one to look forward to in just over three weeks! :(

You’re like me, I get behind on the blogs and have to play catch up.
